What connects the modern port cities? In the mixing of trades, goods, languages and customs, societies foreign and domestic begin to influence the development of space, geography and sense of place.
Through examining Shanghai through layers and connections, we make and forge associations in both memory and in form. When Shanghai reaches a point of complexity we are then lead to look at ‘PORTCITY’ as a site-less vessel for exploring ecology, population, services, export, industry, import, consuming, politics, alterations to our landscape, and potential impacts.
